Maidstone

The garden started as an undeveloped plot alongside a striking modern new build. The client wanted the garden to mirror the house’s distinctive design, using materials that would tie the two together.

We took the angles from the house’s architecture and carried them through into the garden, zoning seating areas and pathways with angular, triangular shapes.

Corten steel and concrete echo the tones and materials of the house, giving the garden a strong, cohesive link to the building.

Large angular decking steps lead you straight out of the house and onto a corten steel bar path, angled to lead you down to the entertaining space at the far end of the garden.

A large concrete base anchors the entertaining area, complete with an aluminum pergola and a modern outdoor kitchen.

Raised corten steel planters add height and structure to the planting, while multi-stem trees are placed throughout the garden as focal points.

The client is thrilled with the finished garden. The angles of the path, entertaining space and planters all echo one another, giving the garden a strong sense of unity from every angle.

Low planting along the corten steel path continues the theme, set out in angular drifts rather than the usual soft curves. The angular paths wrap around the house, tying the whole garden back to the building.

Agapanthus ‘Blue Giant’, Achillea ‘Moonshine’ and Salvia ‘Blue Spire’ bring pops of colour throughout the planting, working alongside the hard landscaping.
